DEAF ALARM SYSTEMS
 
Newtech has been manufacturing equipment for customers with impaired hearing for over 25 years. We offer a range of alarms for deaf and hard of hearing customers including the Portabell MK6 & The Housebell Series 5.0 units. Both of these systems products will provide a visual alert for impaired hearing and deaf residents when either the doorbell, telephone or an intercom has been activated.

The Portabell MK6 unit is a mains operated table lamp and can be connected up to a doorbell, telephone and a door entry system. It can be set up anywhere within the home and can be connected to up to 3 extension units in different rooms.

The Housebell Unit is wired into the house lighting circuit and can provide multiple alarms for deaf and hard of hearing residents by causing the main overhead lights in the home to flash /dim whenever the doorbell, telephone or door entry system rings.

These systems provide effective alarms for deaf and hard of hearing residents giving them peace of mind in knowing when they have visitors whenever thy are in the home.

PORTABELL MK6
 
The problem of not hearing the telephone or doorbell for the deaf and hard of hearing people can cause unnecessary distress in day to day life. Newtech offers a range of alarms for deaf and hard of hearing customers including the Portabell unit which is designed to provide a visual and loud audible warning for the doorbell, telephone and intercom/door entry system.

It is designed in the form of a desk lamp which can be connected to a maximum of 4 extension units throughout the home.

The Portabell MK6 unit is supplied with a 2m telephone connection lead, BT socket double adaptor and cream lampshade. Connection to the doorbell can be made by simply wiring the MK6 unit directly to the door button with two core cable.

INPUT CONNECTIONS
DOORBELL: Either direct connection to the doorbell button or a TPU -microphone pickup unit (sold seperatly) can be connected to the attached to the bell or sounder and wired back to the MK6 unit.

TELEPHONE: The Portabell MK6 unit is supplied with a 2m telephone connection lead and 2 way socket double adaptor.

DOOR ENTRY / INTERCOM SYSTEM OR CUSTOM ALARM
A TPU microphone pickup unit (sold separately) can be used to trigger the Portabell Mk6 system from a range of audible alerts. Please contact us for more information.

Alert Sequences

Doorbell: When the doorbell is operated the unit will produce a slow (one second) on/off flash for approximately 10 seconds.

Telephone: The lamp will flash in the same pattern as the ring of the telephone.

Intercom/Door Entry System: When the intercom/door entry is operated the unit will produce a quick flash pattern for approximately 10 seconds.

The Portabell has a ‘DAY / NIGHT’ switch which allows the user to dictate the lamp’s default mode. Switching the lamp to the ‘NIGHT’ mode turns on the lamp, which will then flash OFF whenever it is triggered by the doorbell/telephone/intercom/door entry. Switching the lamp to ‘DAY’ will turn off the lamp causing it to flash ON whenever it is triggered.


PORTABELL EXTENSION UNITS

Up to four extension units can be connected to the master Portabell unit allowing the user to be alerted to the doorbell, Telephone or Intercom wherever they are in the house.






Beacon Units


As a low cost alternative to the Portabell extension unit, Newtech can supply small beacon units which produce a bright flashing light when triggered.

Housebell - Series 5
 
The Housebell is a popular unit within our alarms for deaf and hard of hearing range. The unit provides a visual indication throughout the home for the door, telephone and intercom and will provide peace of mind for impaired hearing and deaf residents.

The Housebell unit causes the main lights in the house /building, to flash or dim whenever either the doorbell is pressed, the telephone rings or when the Intercom is triggered.  (Please Note: A telephone Adaptor Unit TPA3 will be required to connect to the Housebell to a telephone line, and a Door Entry Unit DE4 will be required to connect the Housebell to a door entry system).

This Series 5.0 is suitable for either single or dual lighting circuits and can be set up to either flash or dim the lights whenever the doorbell, telephone or door entry system is activated. The facility for connecting an AC or DC audible doorbell is also provided (see installation leaflet).

Energy Saving Light bulbs - If you use energy saving light bulbs within your home, please note that the Housebell Series 5 will only work with ' Dimmable ' Energy Saving bulbs. Newtech recommends using ' Energy Saving Halogen bulbs '. For more information please contact us.

Operation of the Housebell-Series 5

The Housebell-Series 5 is fitted with a DAY / NIGHT switch (indicated by SUN/MOON symbols) which located on the front panel. This switch becomes the master switch for the lighting circuit and will allow the lights to flash on during the day and dim at night each time the unit is triggered.

Safety Features

The Housebell series 5 includes certain features to ensure that under all conditions the unit is operating safely. For example;

Two internal fuses protect the unit against over current or excess heat increase and automatically disconnects the unit should there be a problem.

The Series 5 unit now includes additional lighting circuit protection fuses, which are mounted on the front panel. The fuses rated 6A are included to protect the unit against sudden power surges.

The unit is equipped with a bypass feature which disables the Housebell unit and prevents the lights from being operated if the occupant is away from home for a long period, for example, when they are away on holiday.

The Door Entry Unit DE4
 
The Door Entry Unit (DE4) is designed to be used in conjunction with our Housebell Unit. It will allow the Housebell to provide a visual indication for deaf and hard of hearing residents throughout the home whenever a door entry unit is operated. When the door entry system is triggered, the resident will be notified by the overhead house lights flashing or dimming in a 5 flash / dimming sequence.

The DE4 unit is powered from the Housebell series 5 and incorporates a 1m microphone pickup sensor which is attached to the door entry/intercom system. Or custom alarm.

Telephone Adaptor Unit TPA3
 
Operation

The Telephone Adaptor Unit TPA3 is to be used in conjunction with our Housebell Unit. It will  allow the Housebell to provide a visual indication throughout the house whenever the telephone rings so that hard of hearing residents can be alerted to its ringing. When the telephone rings the resident will be notified by the overhead house lights flashing in time with the telephone ringing.

The TPA3 unit is powered by a 9v PP3 battery and incorporates a 2m telephone connection lead.

REN - Ringer Equivalent Number

The maximum number of the telephones you can connect to a line is determined by the REN of each Telephone.
The maximum REN total per telephone line is 4.
Most telephones will have a REN total of 1.Once the Telephone Adaptor Unit TPA3 has been fitted the combined unit will have a REN total of 2.
