Queen Elizabeth Hall

Main Auditorium

Electrical noise emanating from the multitude of high current lighting and other equipment in the venue rendered the space unsuitable for an induction loop system. This noise would be uncomfortable to a hearing aid user and would result in any loop transmossion being inaudible. For this reason an Infra Red system was chosen. A rack mounted Senheiser Infra Red system was installed with 3 large radiator transmitters carefully positioned above the audience. An audio feed to the system was taken from the ‘show relay’ signal. Show Relay is a standard theatre audio provision, normally a pair of focussed overhead microphones will capture the natural sound in the auditorium with a strong bias towards the sound coming from the stage, this is then available for recording or relaying to other areas of the building in which the performance is to be monitored. It is an ideal sound source for inductive loop transmission.

A Senheiser Infra Red system with 4 tranmitters had been installed in this venue at some time in the past but was no longer operational. Newtech was able to repair and recommission the existing equipment, adopting the ‘show relay’ audio feed and re-configuring the mode of operation of the system to better suit the venue.
